The Company’s neuroprotective formulation targets multiple pathways to preserve salvageable brain tissue, reducing tissue damage and the related loss of neurological function. Parenterally administered magnesium has been found in animal studies to improve neurological outcomes for TBI, stroke and other disorders, but those pre-clinical results have not translated to positive human clinical trials. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that magnesium does not successfully penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB). EndogenX’ therapy uses Mannitol to temporarily disrupt the BBB to increase bioavailability of magnesium in the brain. EndogenX believes that this therapy may result in significantly improved outcomes for victims of brain injury and disorders.
